Matched Sets, Not Loose Knives

A planer doesn't care how sharp one knife is; it cares that every knife in the head cuts the same. Knives ground as a set, to the same height and the same edge,
are what keep a cutterhead balanced and a board surface free of the ripple that mismatched knives leave behind. That's how every set leaves our shop: ground flat, matched, and ready to install without shimming guesswork.

Skarpaz T1 high-speed steel holds its edge through production runs of hardwood and abrasive stock, and when it does go dull, the set comes back here: reground flat and re-matched on the same equipment, so the second service is as good as the first.

Sharpening Is Half This Page

Most shops don't buy planer knives often — they sharpen them often. Our planer and chipper knife service grinds sets on CNC equipment with continuously filtered oil, restoring the flat back and consistent height that a balanced head demands. Route customers rotate sets: one in the machine, one on the truck. If you tell us your machine, we'll tell you the knife — and set up the rotation so you're never surfacing with a dull set.
